I don’t profess to be an Oscar Wilde fan, but the relevance of the comedy in which the main characters assume fictitious personalities to escape boring Victorian social obligations has in my view a modern day environmental analogy. The book provides a satirical parallel with some peoples view on man-kinds expansive use of energy, a fictitious ignorance of its impacts and an escaping of our own global obligations. The title of the short story; ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ for this reason made a fitting website domain name to share my work.
I’m not a tree hugging hippy or oil baron capitalist, what I am is a pragmatic Earth Scientist with an interest and continually growing awareness of how precious the planet is. I have a Bachelors degree in Exploration Geology from Cardiff University, a Masters degree from Heriot Watt University in Petroleum Reservoir Evaluation and Management and 15 years oil and gas industry work experience, mainly as a Petroleum Engineer. I am now pursuing a Masters in Renewable Energy Development, also at Heriot Watt University in-between career roles. I hope to share a few technical articles via these webpages and pass on useful and interesting studies from the growing world of renewable energy.
